eBay: Confusing Quarter, Cheap Stock

Image
eBay reported solid Q2'21 results, but the numbers were confusing due to the divestiture of the Korean business. The company successfully grew revenues despite a slowdown in transactions as demand normalizes. The stock is cheap at just 15x '22 EPS estimates, while the company is set to boost earnings via massive share buybacks. Looking for a portfolio of ideas like this one? After selling the Classifieds and eBay Korea businesses, the company is now flush with cash while still loaded with other investments. My  investment thesis  remains very Bullish on the e-commerce stock during this turnaround period. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha.  Disclosure: Long EBAY. eBay: Too Pessimistic On Split

eBay tanked following PayPal reporting weak TPV numbers for the online merchant. The online retailer has only started the process of managed payments that removes PayPal from the process. The stock is incredibly cheap with no actual confirmation that GMV will be weak due to the payments transition. eBay   ( EBAY ) plunged 9% on Friday as the market reacted to GMV numbers provided by   PayPal   ( PYPL ). Considering eBay is in the process of implementing managed payments that removes PayPal from the process, investors need to be careful with data from a potentially unhappy partner. My   investment thesis   remains bullish. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha.  Disclosure: Long EBAY. Please review the disclaimer page for more details.

PayPal: Improving Leverage Outweighs Industry Threats

PayPal is making strides to improve leverage after the split from eBay. Apple Pay, along with other payment options, are viable threats that are likely to cause volatility in the stock. The stock trades at an attractive valuation compared to the potential for digital payment growth that includes emergent mobile and P2P. The interesting part of the PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL ) story is the digital payments provider has a business similar in size to MasterCard (NYSE: MA ). The payments network provider is generally seen as a bigger company due to the market valuation of nearly $110 billion, but both companies are on pace to soon pass an annual revenue run rate of $10 billion. Interactive Multi-Media Auction: Live-Streaming Art Auctions

Summary Interactive Multi-Media Auction provides a unique opportunity to invest in live-streaming art auction events. The developing company provides a rare ability to invest in a company focused on the growing popularity of online art auctions. IMMA is a high-risk stock only appropriate for a small portion of a diversified portfolio.    The fine art category has a long history of a strong investment sector providing wealthy individuals and companies another asset class for diversification away from stocks and bonds. Investors in the stock market though have limited opportunities to take advantage of that growth and opportunity.  Read the full article on Seeking Alpha.  Disclosure: No postions mentioned.  Please read the disclaimer page for more details.

eBay Reports Solid Earnings Benefiting From Mobile

After reporting earnings on Wednesday night, eBay Inc. (EBAY) initially jumped nearly 5%, as investors were impressed with mobile growth and international expansion opportunities. The company is a global commerce platform and payments leader. Unlike Facebook (FB) or Google (GOOG) , eBay sees mobile as a game changer. The shift towards smartphones and tablet usage provides consumers with more access to utilize the services of eBay. Read the full article at Seeking Alpha. Disclosure: No positions. PayPal: Huge Mobile Payments Growth Remains Buried

Just about every day, a company releases news regarding the mobile payments area. Unfortunately for investors with only access to the public markets, the news tends to be from a private company and more importantly, the focus is usually on Square. For investors, a few opportunities exist via PayPal, a division of eBay Inc. (EBAY) and Intuit (INTU) . See original article from April regarding the different investment options. PayPal appears to have the best plan, but do investors get enough exposure from an investment in eBay with a market cap of $64B? Read the full article at Seeking Alpha. Mobile Payments: Nothing Worth Investing In Just Yet

After recently writing articles (I, II) about mobile advertising, it seemed appropriate and interesting to check out the mobile payments industry next. With smartphones and tablets now widespread, the mobile payments industry appears ripe for major growth in the next 5 years. Normally being ahead of the curve on mobile adoption, I actually found myself very uninformed on mobile payments. Maybe the central part of the country is just behind on this technology adoption as I've yet to run across a small business owner using a mobile card reader. For now, the industry is very fragmented with numerous developments underway. Not to mention that concepts of whether mobile payments means the customer or the business uses the mobile device are mixed. The potential in this sector has attracted big boys including Intuit (INTU) , the PayPal division of Ebay (EBAY) , and Google (GOOG) to develop various solutions. Also, traditional payment processors MasterCard (MA) and Visa (V) are working ...
