Velodyne Lidar: Beaten To A Pulp

Image
Velodyne Lidar has fallen all the way to $3 despite the company building a strong pipeline. The Lidar sensor space remains on a path for a huge sales ramp over the next few years. The stock only trades at ~1.5x more conservative '24 sales targets. Looking for a portfolio of ideas like this one? Members of Out Fox The Street get exclusive access to our model portfolio.  Learn More » Velodyne Lidar  ( VLDR ) has been the poster child for failed SPAC deals. Since completing the deal in early 2021, the company has missed financial targets and ran into internal management issues with the founder. Despite all these issues, my  investment thesis  remains Bullish on the stock and the Lidar sector due to the business ramp on the horizon while the stock trades at the lows around just $3. Affirm: Buying Growth

Image
Affirm announced an exclusive deal with Amazon lasting just 13 months at the cost of 22 million shares. The BNPL provider forecasts massive 13% operating margin losses this year before factoring in the $2+ billion in-effect marketing cost for the Amazon deal. The stock now trades at an absurd $53 billion market cap which is ~90x FY22 net revenues. I do much more than just articles at Out Fox The Street: Members get access to model portfolios, regular updates, a chat room, and more.  Learn More » Affirm  ( AFRM ) is surging again following news of the BNPL deal with  Amazon  ( AMZN ) expanding to an exclusive deal. The deal comes at a very high cost to shareholders over looked by the market. My  investment thesis  remains Bearish on the stock, especially after an irrational rally on the deal with the leading e-commerce retailer. Wayfair: Shaking Off Citron Call

Image
Wayfair (W)  is down about $70 from the all-time highs back in March to $105. The recent repeated negative calls by Citron Research on the online furniture stock actually could signal the bottom. The noted short seller isn't highly bearish on the stock where others he has claimed the stocks were virtually worthless. Citron just picks the stock to dip further to $70.  Citron Research @CitronResearch $ W It Doesn't Matter Until it Matters https:// citronresearch.com/it-doesnt-matt er-until-it-matters/  … It Doesn't Matter Until It Matters - Citron Research With new market realities, Wayfair should quickly trade down to $70. Anyone who follows Citron knows that we have been bearish on Wayfair for YEARS as we never thought selling furniture online with... citronresearch.com 46 1:07 PM - Oct 1, 2019 Twitter Ads info and privacy 22 people are talking about this Wayfair still appears ...

Is Amazon A Legitimate Advertising Play?

Amazon stands to benefit from growing digital ad revenue. Research reports support the digital ad market sustaining strong growth for the next few years. The online retail giant doesn't offer the best way to invest in ad market growth due to substantial retail operations. My biggest complaint that guides my  investment thesis  on  Amazon  ( AMZN ) is a lack of focus on running a profitable businesses. The thesis isn't exactly unique, but one area that provides an opportunity to change the equation is digital advertising leading Citibank to upgrade the stock with an incredible price target of $1,600. The numbers though aren't adding up to buying the stock for this reason. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha.  Disclosure: No position mentioned. Amazon: Happy Loss Season

Amazon released strong metrics for the holiday season. The online retail giant again highlighted reasons that strong sales are likely to hit the bottom line. The stock likely continues rallying with sales growth, but the company is in a precarious financial position. To start the trading week,  Amazon  ( AMZN ) released  robust holiday shopping numbers . From strong device sales to impressive membership trials, the e-commerce giant saw a not so surprising big boost in sales. Read the full article on Seeking Alpha.  Disclosure: No position. CVS Health: Is The Amazon Threat Realistic?

Amazon continues working on initiatives to explore the pharmacy sector. CVS Health trades near multi-year lows in part due to the Amazon threat. The net payout yields offer a positive signal if the e-commerce giant isn't a problem. CVS Health  (NYSE: CVS ) continues to trade down towards multi-year lows as weak earnings and fears of  Amazon  (NASDAQ: AMZN ) entering the pharmacy space have weighed on the stock. The company though is raking in billions in free cash flow and returning that cash to shareholders, making the stock appealing on several metrics. Amazon: First Drone Delivery

Amazon (AMZN) released the following video of the first drone delivery in the UK. The PrimeAir customer delivery is part of an initial test with some apparent limitations. Packages have to be less than 5.75 lbs and the test includes an area with large fields and limited homes. The package landed on a spot laid out in the yard far from the house. Very few homes in the US would offer such a landing spot. The drone test is an interesting step. The question still remains at how viable drone deliveries are in congested towns were the majority of the population in the world lives. Disclosure: No position. Amazon: Don't Fight AWS Momentum

Amazon's momentum over the surprise AWS operating profit continues to grow with the recent analyst upgrades. Margin improvements and earnings forecasts don't match the excitement over the prospects of the AWS segment. Investors should ride the momentum higher, despite the continued overvaluation of the stock.          The recent Q1'15 results for Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN ) brought excitement to the market over the positive numbers from the Amazon Web Services segment. The ironic part, though, is that the better than expected numbers for AWS were offset by mixed numbers for the retail business. Further Proof That Amazon Won't Ever Make A Lasting Profit

Summary Amazon reported Q4 '14 earnings that smashed reduced analyst estimates. The online retail giant surged 13% based on those numbers, but the gains will only encourage further competition for a low-margin business. Investors should sell shares into the rally. After beating analyst estimates for Q4 and surging nearly $43 the next trading day, Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN ) is probably further away from a lasting profit profile. A previous article - Why Amazon Is Likely To Never Make A Profit - highlighted how competition was joining the fray, yet Amazon doesn't produce meaningful profits. The prime reason being the astonishing market valuation of Amazon in general, and the huge $20.6 billion gain due to a small profit sure help embolden the competition into the sector.
